Self Employment
By Heather Platts BA(Hons) | Updated August 26, 2007
Whether you choose to be a sole trader, or an individual in a partnership or an LLP you will have to register with HMRC as self employed. You can continue to work as an employee, but all work conducted through the business will be on a self employed basis.
There are a number of activities that would suggest you are in actuality self employed, such as: raising invoices for work completed, taking responsibility for the business financially, having a client/customer base are but a few. Registration of your self employed status with HMRC is free - but failure to comply within relevant timescales carries a financial penalty.
